SUMMARY

Adequate nutrition should be a key element in the treatment of the acute ill patient.

The evaluation of the nutritional status of these patients will identify those in underfeeding condition, or in risk of emaciation, and acts as a support on the control of the efficacy of the established nutritional regime.

The authors, at this first part of the publication “Nutrition in Intensive Care Unit”, indicate the fundamental parameters to an appropriate balanced and energetic nourishment.
