RESUMO

Começamos por tecer algumas consideraçães gerais sobre a situação da Tuberculose no Mundo e particularmente em Portugal, e a repercussão da infecção pelo VIH sobre a epidemiologia da Tuberculose, como justificação da escolha do tema.

Abordamos os problemas do diagnóstico da Tuberculose já que, embora este assente primordialmente no isolamento do Mycobacterium tuberculosis, na expectoração ou noutras secreções ou tecidos, consoante a forma clínica em causa, nem sempre tal é possível e é muitas vezes demasiado moroso.

Seguidamente abordamos genericamente alguns dos métodos diagnósticos mais recentemente empregues na Tuberculose e mais circunstanciadamente o diagnóstico serológico.

Fazemos urn breve historial das diversas técnicas usadas na pesquisa de anticorpos específicos e os antigénios ensaiados no diagnóstico serológico da Tuberculose ao longo dos anos.

Revemos o interesse dos antigénios glicolipídicos e suas eventuais vantagens em relação a outros, nomeadamente a antigénios proteícos.
